The events in West Bonner County School District this past year were a dramatic demonstration of just how much Bonner County voters value their schools. Yet, our legislators refuse to release even the necessary funds to make public school facilities usable. They propose bills that would strain our schools even more. We don't just need usable facilities, we need to be able to provide a rich environment for learning. To educate the whole child, we need athletics and extra curricular activities. We have many options in our district, spanning home schooling, private, and public education. We want all young people to have access to the learning resources, social engagement, guidance, and extracurricular activities that provide the educational foundation for productive community members.
Our Idaho Constitution requires our lawmakers to fund schools. Yet, they don't.
Our libraries are vibrant community gathering places that enhance education. They are under continuous attack by our elected officials who would make laws to bankrupt both our libraries and our schools. Yes, parents should, and do, have the right to supervise what materials their children check out.
The LAUNCH program was introduced in 2023 to help our young people through scholarships that pay for certified, marketable skills that can be used to earn a living right here in Idaho. Yet, our North Idaho senator labeled it socialism to try to keep this benefit from you. And, two out of three of the Idaho legislators voted against this wonderful program and LAUNCH only passed by one vote.
I will work to ensure that educational resources are accessible to you, whether you choose public education, home schooling, or private school.

"The stability of a republican form of government depending mainly upon the intelligence of the people, it shall be the duty of the legislature of Idaho, to establish and maintain a general, uniform and thorough system of public, free common schools. "
